What is CPC?

CPC (cost per click) is what you pay each time someone clicks your ad. It's the core price of search and most direct-response campaigns. Divide spend by clicks and you have it - but a cheap click is only worth chasing if it turns into revenue, which is where most reporting stops and Clicked begins.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPC?

It varies wildly by channel, keyword competition and intent - from a few cents on cheap display to $50+ for competitive B2B search terms. A CPC is only 'good' if the revenue per click comfortably exceeds it. Trace clicks through to sales rather than optimising CPC in isolation.

How do I lower my CPC?

Improve ad relevance and quality score, tighten targeting, test creative, and add negative keywords so you stop paying for clicks that never convert. But be careful: the cheapest clicks are often the lowest-intent ones, so watch revenue per source, not just CPC.

CPC vs CPM - which should I use?

Use CPC for direct response where a click is the goal and you only want to pay for engagement. Use CPM for reach and awareness where impressions matter. Many platforms optimise toward conversions regardless of the billing model you pick.
